1943 - Gingrich was born Newton McPherson in Dauphin, Pennsylvania on the 17th of June.
1961 - He graduated from Baker High School, Columbus, Georgia after attending school at various military installations.
1962 - He married Jackie Battley.
1965 - He attended and received his bachelor's degree from Emory University in Atlanta.
1968 - He received his master's degree from Tulane University.
1970 - He worked as a professor at West Georgia College in Carrollton, Georgia.
1971 - He received his Ph.D in Modern European History from Tulane University.
1979 - He was elected as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia's 6th congressional district.
1981 - He co-founded the Congressional Military Reform Caucus as well as the Congressional Space Caucus.
1983 - He founded the Conservative Opportunity Society and the expulsion of fellow representatives Dan Crane and Gerry Studds for their roles in the Congressional Page sex scandal.
1986 - He became General Chairman of Gopac.
1989 - Gingrich was appointed House Minority Whip after Dick Cheney became Secretary of Defense.
1994 - He drafted the Contract of America, a list of campaign promises given as intended acts of Congress.
1995 - He was elected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives on the 4th of January serving for two years. He wrote the book entitled To Renew America.
1997 - He was re-elected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives on the 7th of January serving for another two years.
1998 - He became a senior fellow at the conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute.
2005 - Gingrich and his third wife Callista established the Newt L. and Callista L. Gingrich Scholarship for instrumental music majors at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
