Giacconi, Riccardo

1966 – Helen B. Warner Prize for Astronomy.

1981 – Bruce Medal.

         – Henry Norris Russell Lectureship.

         – Heineman Prize.

1982 – Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society.

         – He has simultaneously held the position of professor of physics and astronomy.

1988 – Research professor at Johns Hopkins University.

1993 – He was also Director General of the European Southern Observatory.

2002 – He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for pioneering contributions to astrophysics, which have led to the discovery of cosmic X-ray sources.

         – Nobel Prize in Physics.

2003 – National Medal of Science.

         – He is currently principal investigator for the Chandra Deep Field-South project with NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory.
