Gallaudet, Thomas Hopkins
US educator of the deaf
Eponym of Gallaudet University
1802 - Thomas Gallaudet goes to Yale College at the age of 14.
1805 - Thomas graduates from Yale at the age of 17.
1812 - After meeting a deaf child, Alice Cogswell, he decides to teach deaf children.
1816 - Goes to England to learn some teaching methods that he read about, comes back with another teacher to help him.
1817 - Thomas opens a school for deaf children.
1821 - He marries one of his former pupils, Sophia Fowler.
1830 - Thomas retires from his school.
