1881 – He was  Active in Republican politics and elected in Los Angeles City Attorney.

1888 – He was delegate to the Republican national convention at Chicago.

1898 – He was elected as 20th governor of California U.S.A.

1909 – He was appointed by President William Howard Taft (27th President of the United States) as a Minister

            to Portugal.

1924 – Died on the age of 72 in Los Angeles U.S.A.

1929 – On the 28th of October, "Gage Avenue" in Los Angeles was named after him.
