1900 - Born in Marburg, Hesse on the 11th of February.

1922 - He defended his dissertation.

1929-1930 - Gadamer habilitated and spent lecturing in Marburg.

1946 - He was found to be untainted by Nazism by the American occupation forces and named rector of the university.

1949 - Communist East Germany was no more to Gadamer's liking than the Third Reich, and he left for West Germany, accepting first a position in Frankfurt am Main and then the succession of Karl Jaspers in Heidelberg.

1960 - Wrote "Truth and Method".

2002 - Died on the 13th of March.
