1922 – He was born in St. Louis, Missouri this year and raised on Chicago’s South Side.
1940 – He was a well-known associate of Malcolm little (later known as Malcolm X), according to Malcolm’s autobiography.
1972-77 - on the successful "Sanford And Son" sitcom for 5 years.
1975 – He also appeared ringside at the famous boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner near Cleveland, Ohio.
1977 – He struck out on his own by starring in a short-lived variety show.
1991 – He appeared to be making a comeback with the series The Royal Family, in which he co-starred with his long-time friend Della Reese when a fatal heart attack felled him on the set.
