1944 – He was born on the 16th day of February this year in Jackson, Mississippi. He received his B.A. from Michigan State University. After a brief enrollment in law school, Ford turned to writing fiction.

 

1977 – He has been a Guggenheim fellow. He received his MFA from the University of California at Irvine. He has also lived in Montana and New Orleans.

 

1979 – He received recognition award at the National Endowment for the Arts fellow.

 

1985 – He was a two time recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts fellow.

 

1987 – He won a PEN/Faulkner citation for fiction award for The Sportswriter.
