1946 - Sally Margaret Field Mahoney was born 6th of November in Pasadena, California.

 

Attended Birmingham High School in Van Nuys, California.

 

1960 - Starred on television, starring as the boy-struck surfer girl in the series Gidget.

 

         - Her best-known television role, as Sister Bertrille in The Flying Nun.

 

1968-1975 - Married to Steven Craig.

 

1976 - Studied with famed acting teacher Lee Strasberg then she landed the title role in the TV film Sybil.

 

         - Portrayed a young woman afflicted with multiple personality syndromes.

 

1979 - Starred as a union organizer in Norma Rae, and won the Academy Award for Best Actress.

 

1981 - Field played a prostitute opposite Tommy Lee Jones in the South-set comedy Back Roads.

 

1985 - Won another Oscar for her starring role in Places in the Heart; her acceptance speech is well remembered for its earnestness. In it, Field stated, "I haven't had an orthodox career, and I've wanted more than anything to have your respect. The first time I didn't feel it, but this time I feel it, and I can't deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!" The line ending in "...I can't deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!"

 

1993 - Her supporting roles in movies, including Mrs. Doubtfire which she played the wife of Robin Williams.

 

1994 - starred in a supporting role as the love interest of Pierce Brosnan followed by Forrest Gump.

 

1996 - Her first directorial stint was for the television film The Christmas Tree.

 

1998 - Directed From the Earth to the Moon.

 

2001 - Played the role on ER as Dr. Abby Lockhart's bipolar mother, for which she won an Emmy.

 

2000 - Directed the feature film Beautiful as well as an episode of the TV mini-series.

 

2002 - Starred in the very short-lived series The Court.

 

2005 - Field diagnosed with osteoporosis. Her diagnosis led her to create the "Rally With Sally For Bone

Health" campaign with support from Roche and GlaxoSmithKline that co-promote Boniva, a treatment for osteoporosis.
