1888 - He entered the service of the United States Bureau of Fisheries.

1891 - He became an Ichthyologist.

1892 - He served as a United States fur-seal commissioner.

1908 - He became chairman of the fur-seal board.

1910 - He served as a chief of the Alaska Fisheries Service.

1932 - He died on the 27th of September in Berkeley, California, United States.
