1950 – Born on September 30th in Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico. Laura Esquivel is the award-winning author of Like Water for Chocolate, which has sold more than four and a half million copies around the world in 35 languages, as well as The Law of Love and Between Two Fires.
1975 – Married to film director Alfonso Arau.
1989-1992 – She is best known for Like Water for Chocolate, an imaginative and compelling combination of novel and cookbook, published in Spanish Mexico and in English.
1993 – The movie version, written by Esquivel, was released and became one of the largest grossing foreign films ever released in the US; and in Mexico it won the Mexican Academy of Motion Pictures award.
