Ershad, [Hossain] Muhammad
1930 - Born on the 1st of January in Rangpur, Bangladesh.
1950 - He graduated from the University of Dhaka in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
1952 - He was commissioned into the Pakistan Army.
1966 - He completed advanced courses from the Command and Staff College in Quetta, Pakistan.
1969 - He was given command of the 3rd East Bengal Regiment.
1971 - He was given command 7th East Bengal Regiment.
1973 - He was transferred to the new state of Bangladesh and appointed as a Adjutant General
of the Bangladesh Army.
1975 - He was appointed deputy chief of army staff.
1978 - He was appointed as a army chief of staff.
1983 - He took over as president of Bangladesh on the 11th of December.
1985 - He introduced the upazila and zila parishad system and held the first democratic elections
for these village councils.
1990 - He forced to step down as a president of Bangladesh.
1991 - He contested and won the elections from jail.
1996 - He won again elections from the jail.
1997 - He was released from jail on 9th of January.
