1808 – He was appointed the first British envoy to the court of Kabul, Afghanistan.

1811 – He appointed to the important and difficult post of resident in Pune, India.

1819 – He was appointed as the Governor of Bombay in India.

1829 – He went back to England.

1859 – He died on the 20th of November in Surrey, England.
