1898 - Born on December 6th in Dirschau, West Prussia, Germany. He was the preeminent photojournalist of his time—a time that spans eight decades of the twentieth century.

1916 - Served the German Army during World War II.

1936 - Was one of four original staff photographers for "Life" magazine.

1943 - Was a naturalized United States Citizen.

1945 - He created famous photograph of sailor kissing nurse during V-J Day celebration in Times Square.

1949 - Married to Kathy Kaye.

1966 - Author of the books, Witness to Our Time and the memoir, The Eye of Eisenstaedt.

1973 - Author of the photography books People and Eisenstaedt: Germany.

1995 - Died on August 23rd in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts.
