1864 - Born on the 17th of August in Denton, Texas, U.S.A.

1881 -
He entered the Naval Academy on the 28th of September.

1885 - He graduated the Naval Academy on the 5th of June.

1887 - He was promoted to ensign on the 1st of July.

        - He began three years of duty in  Fishing Commission steamer.

1890 - He received instruction in new developments in naval ordnance at the Washington Navy Yard.

1894 - He returned to the United States and reported for duty at the Naval Academy.

1896 - His commission as lieutenant, junior grade, arrived on the 12th June .

1899 - He was  promoted as a lieutenant.

1899 - He returned to Annapolis to become aide to the superintendent of the Naval Academy.

1902 - He became aide to the commandant of the Navy Yard.

1904 - He won his commission as a lieutenant commander.

1908 - He was promoted to commander on the 15th of December.

1912 - He earned a captain's commission.

1913 - He attended the short course at the Naval War College.

1915 - He appointed as Superintendent of the Naval Academy on the 1st of September.

1919 - He left Annapolis on the 30th of January to command the battleship divisions of the Atlantic Fleet.

1921 - He took command of the Pacific Fleet on the 30th of June.

1923 - He became Chief of Naval Operations.

1928 - He served on the General Board until retired on 9th of August.

1929 - He died on the 23rd of July in Washington, D.C., U.S.A.
