1914 - Born on April 4th in Gia Dinh, Vietnam.
1936 - Married to Robert Anthelme on September 23rd.
1943 - She joined the Resistance, while her beloved brother Paul, who had remained with their mother in Saigon, died of broncho-pneumonia because of the lack of medicines.
1944 - Pain was unbearable after the death of her brother and she showed it in La vie Tranquille (Gallimard), the book that she was writing at that very moment and that Gallimard published.
1950-1964 - She was expelled from the Communist Party.
- She achieved her first literary success, Un barrage contre le Pacifique and, from that moment, her memorable works were published: Les petits Chevaux de Tarquinia (Gallimard) where she tells the story of a vacation in Italy, Des journées entières dans les arbres (Gallimard), Moderato Cantabile (Minuit), Hiroshima, mon amour (Gallimard) the later famous film by Alain Resnais, and Le ravissement de Lol V. Stein (Gallimard), novel with which she reached the top of her creative activity.
1965 - In her next novel, Le vice-consul (Gallimard) the main character walks out to the balcony of his house in Lahore and shoots into the air.
1967-1985 - Then came the titles: L’amante anglaise (Gallimard), L’amour (Gallimard), L’amant (Minuit), La Douleur (P.O.L.), Émily L., and La vie matérielle.
- Recipient of the Goncourt Prize for L'Amant.
1988 - She was in a state of coma.
1996 - Died from cancer on March 3rd in Paris, France.
