1812 – Was commissioned ensign in the Seventeenth Infantry during the War.

1814 – Promoted to first lieutenant in the Forty-sixth Infantry.

1822 – Appointed major general of State militia and commanded Illinois troops in the Black Hawk War.

1824 – Was a member of the State senate.

1827 – Elected as a Jacksonian to the Twentieth and to the three succeeding Congresses.

1834 – Elected Governor of Illinois.

1835 – Received the testimonial of a sword for his part in the defense of Fort Stephenson, Ohio.

1844 – Died on January 15th in Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois.
