1964 - Born on December 16th in Gera, East Germany. German athlete, competing in sprint, long jump and heptathlon.
1982 - At the age of 17, she came fourth in the long jump at the European Championships held in Athens.
1983 - still competing under her maiden name of Daute and representing East Germany, Heike won the gold medal in the long jump at the first World Championships held in Helsinki.
- On July 28th, she married Andreas Drechsler, and thenceforth competed under her married name.
1984 - Was elected to East German parliament Volkskammer.
1985 - She continued her dominance of the long jump recording the best four performances of the year.
1992 - She is the only woman who has won two Olympic gold medals in long jump.
