1927 – While working for Bell Labs he confirmed the De Broglie hypothesis that that all matter has a wave-like nature through the discovery of electron diffraction.

1935 – Awarded the Hughes Medal.

1937 – He shared the Nobel Prize in Physics with George Paget Thomson for the discovery of electron diffraction.

1947 – 1949 – Served as Visiting Professor of Physics, University of Virginia, Charlottesville.

1958 – Died on 1st of February in Charlottesville, Virginia.
