1881 - Born on the 22nd of October in Bloomington, Illinois.

1905 - 1910 - Became a Part-Time Instructor, Princeton University.

1908 - Finished BS, degree at University of Chicago.

1911 - Received PhD, Princeton University.

1911 - 1917 - Instructor in Physics, at Carnegie Institute of Technology.

1927 - While working for Bell Labs he confirmed the De Broglie hypothesis that that all matter has a wave-like nature through the discovery of electron diffraction.

1935 - Awarded the Hughes Medal.

1937 - He shared the Nobel Prize in Physics with George Paget Thomson for the discovery of electron diffraction.

1947 - 1949 - Served as Visiting Professor of Physics, University of Virginia, Charlottesville.

1958 - Died on 1st of February in Charlottesville, Virginia.
