1901 - Born on the 15th of April in Whitwell, Derbyshire, England. He was an English professional player of billiards and later snooker.
1914 - Won the Chesterfield Championship aged 13.
1919 - He became a professional billiards player at the age of 18.
1926 - He reached his first World Billiards final.
1927 - 1946 - Became the world snooker champion.
1928 - 1933 - He was the World Professional Billiards Champion.
1940 - He won against Fred in the world championship final 37-36.
1950 - Achieved his first maximum break in snooker of 147 in an exhibition match at Leicester Square Hall, the country's Mecca for billiards enthusiasts.
1963 - He was awarded the OBE.
1978 - Died on 10th of July two months after collapsing while watching his brother play Perrie Mans in world snooker championship semi-final.
