1839 – Born in the village of Thompson, Connecticut, he was an engineer and Major General in the United States Army.

1885 – Assistant engineer on the construction project to build the Washington Monument, and was featured guests at the dedication ceremony.

1895 – He filled on opening on the Antietam Battlefield Board.

1899 – 1900 – Served as a military Governor of Puerto Rico.

1904 – 1905 – Became the first military Governor of the Panama Canal Zone.

1907 – 1915 – Chairman of the central committee of the American Red Cross.

1918 – He died on 21st of July.
