US juvenile author and illustrator

 

1889 - Born in Asheville, North Carolina, on the 1st of June.

 

Studied at the Corcoran School of Art, then went to London and studied under Frank Brangwyn.

 

Wrote and illustrated "Andy and the Lion" 1938, "Daniel Boone" 1939.

 

1940 - His book Daniel Boone won the Newbery Medal.

 

1974 - James Henry Daugherty died on 21st of February.
