1818 - He was elected Lieutenant Governor.
1836 - President Andrew Jackson appointed him to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
1841-1860 - Served as Supreme Court justice.
1860 - He died on 31st of May at Richmond, Virginia, USA.
