1922 - Dorothy Jean Dandridge  was born on the 9th of November.

 

1935 - Her first on-screen appearance was a bit part in Our Gang short called Teacher's Beau.

 

1942 - Dandridge married Harold Nicholas on 6th of September.

 

1953 - starred in movies "Bright Road" as Jane Richards.

 

1954 -  Played as Carmen Jones in the film "Carmen Jones".

 

        - Appeared on the cover of Life magazine, the first African American to appear on the cover.

 

1957 - She played in Island in the Sun, which was controversial for its portrayal of an interracial romance.

 

1959 - Starred in Porgy and Bess alongside Sidney Poitier, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award.

 

       - Once again she married Jack Denison, a white man, on 22nd of June.

 

1959 - First black nominated for Academy Award for best actressin the film  "Porgy and Bess" as Bess.

 

       - 1st black woman featured on cover of "Life" magazine.

 

1961 - Guest-starred on the Ed Sullivan Show.

 

1965 - she was found dead in on 8th of September her home in West Hollywood, California from an overdose of Imipramine.

 

She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6719 Hollywood Boulevard.

 

1977 - She was placed in the Black Film Hall of Fame
