1895 - Born in Copenhagen on 21st February, to Emil Dam, apothecary, and his wife Emilie (née Peterson), a teacher.
1920 - Graduated in chemistry from the Polytechnic Institute, Copenhagen.
- Appointed instructor (assistant) in chemistry at the School of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine.
1923 - Instructor in biochemistry at the Physiological Laboratory of the University of Copenhagen.
1924 - Married to Inger, née Olsen.
1925 - Studied microchemistry in Graz (Austria) with F. Pregl.
1928 - Became Assistant Professor at the Institute of Biochemistry, Copenhagen University.
1929-1941 - Promoted to Associate Professor at the Copenhagen University.
1932-1933 - Obtained a Rockefeller Fellowship and worked in Rudolph Schoenheimer's Laboratory in Freiburg.
1934 - Submitted his thesis Nogle Undersøgelser over Sterinernes Biologiske Betydning (Some investigations on the biological significance of the sterines) to the University of Copenhagen, and was awarded Ph.D. in Biochemistry.
1935 - Worked with P. Karrer, of Zurich.
He discovered vitamin K while studying the sterol metabolism of chicks in Copenhagen.
1940-1941 - He was on lecture tour of Canada and the United States under the auspices of the American Scandinavian Foundation.
1943 - He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine.
1945 - Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research as an Associate Member.
1946 - Returned to Denmark.
1947 - Dam is a member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences.
1948 - Member of Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.
1951 - Correspondant Étranger, Académie Royale de Médecine de Belgique.
1953 - Elected Hon. Fellow of the Royal Society, Edinburgh.
1954 - Became Joint Honorary President, International Union of Nutritional Sciences.
1956-1962 - Became the leader of the Biochemical Division of the Danish Fat Research Institute.
1961 - He was Corresponding Member of the German Association for Nutrition.
Awarded of the Norman Medal by the German Association for Fat Research.
1976 - Henrik Dam died on 17th of April.
