1673 – Born on the 20th of July in Stair in the ancient District of Kyle, Ayrshire, Scotland.


1707 – He was elected as one of sixteen Scottish representative peers in the newly formed Parliament of Great Britain.


Became an assistant to John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough during the War of the Spanish Succession.


1709 – He was sent as an envoy to Augustus II of Poland.


1710 – Promoted to general for his military achievements.


1720 – Became Vice Admiral of Scotland.


1733 – He lost the position of Vice Admiral, because of his opposition to the Excise Bill of Prime Minister Robert Walpole.


1742 – Dalrymple was promoted to field marshal and commanded the "pragmatic" army of Flanders and Germany.


1747 – John Dalrymple, 2nd Earl of Stair died on 9th of May.
