US historian and newspaper editor
1901 - Born on 8th of February, at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where his father was a history professor.
Educated at Episcopal High School in Alexandria Virginia and at the University of Virginia.
1922 - He went to work in Richmond, Virginia as a journalist at the Richmond News-Leader
1928 - He left the News-Leader for the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
1934 - Became Chief Editorial Writer.
1936-1969 - Served as editor of Richmond Times-Dispatch.
1946 - Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing (for editorials opposing poll tax and segregation of public transportation)
1957-1957 - served as president of the American Society of Newspaper Editors in 1957-58.
1995 - Virginius Dabney died on 28th of December.
He was the opponent of segregation.
