1913 - Born in Kenley, Surrey on the 26th of May, and was raised there and in Dulwich, South London.
1939-1941 - Working in repertory theatre, he left for Hollywood, but returned after roles in several films.
1940 - Appearing alongside Laurel and Hardy.
1943 - He and actress Helen Beck had been married.
1948 - His first major film part was as Osric in Hamlet with Laurence Olivier.
1950 - He worked in television, most notably as Winston Smith.
1952 - He starred as Fitzwilliam Darcy in the BBC's production of Pride and Prejudice.
1955 - Pride and Prejudice and as King Richard II in Richard of Bordeaux.
1957 - His first appearances in his two most famous roles were in Terence Fisher's films The Curse of Frankenstein.
1959 - He retired to Whitstable, where he had bought a seafront house, and continued his hobby of birdwatching, and to write two autobiographies.
1966 - He appeared in the cult series The Avengers and then again in its successor, The New Avengers.
1971 - Withdrew from the film Blood from the Mummy's Tomb when his wife died
1976 - He was cast in Star Wars, which was shooting at Elstree Studios, Boreham Wood, London.
1986 - Cushing appeared on the British TV show Jim'll Fix It.
1989 - He was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
1994 - Died on the 11th of August.
