1900 - Born on January 1st in Girona, Spain. Spanish-born bandleader who popularized the rumba in America.

1928 - Cugat finally got his break when he and his band secured a job at the prestigious Coconut Grove nightclub.

1929 - Married his second wife Carmen Castillo.

1936-1949 - He starred in the movies "Neptune's Daughter", "A Date with Judy", "On an Island with You", "Luxury Liner", "This Time for Keeps", "Holiday in Mexico", "Bathing Beauty", "Two Girls and a Sailor", "The Heat's On", "Stage Door Canteen", "You Were Never Lovelier" and "Go West Young Man".

         - Married his third wife, Lorraine Allen.

1952 - He married the actress, Abbe Lane.

1966 - Married the singer, Charo on August 7th.

1971 - After suffering a stroke, Xavier Cugat retired.

1990 - Died on October 27th in Barcelona, Spain due to heart failure.
