Courteney Bass Cox was born on the 15th of June in 1964 in Birmingahm Alabama.  She started college at Mount Vernon College for Women studying Architecture but dropped out to persue modeling and acting.  Her first claim to fame was being chosen for a Bruce Springsteen video "Dancing in the Dark," as a conert goer chosen by Bruce to dance with him onstage.
She was then cast in the super hero fantasy TV series "Misfits of Science" as a telekinetic teen. "Misfits of Science" was cancelled after ariing for only five months.  She then had parts in the movies "Master of the Universe" and "Cocoon: the Return" and a recurring part as the girlfriend of Michael J Fox's character Alex Keaton on the TV series "Family Ties."
In 1990 she was cast in the film "Mr Destiny" starring James Belushi. Before her big break in "Friends" she also appeared in the films "Blue Desert," "Shaking the Tree," "The Opposite Sex and How to Live with Them" and "Ace Venture: Pet Detective," with Jim Carrey.  She also did a guest shot on "Sienfeld" as Jerry Sienfeld's girlfriend.
Next she was cast in what has so far been the most visable role for her, as Monica Geller in the hit comedy "Friends."  Incidentally she auditioned for the part of Rachel Green but that part went to Jennifer Aniston.  "Friends" lasted for ten seasons, running from 1994 to 2004.
While appearing on "Friends" she kept active in the movies.  In 1996 she met her future husband David Arquette while filming "Scream."  She went on to film "Scream II" in 1997 and "Scream III" in 2000.  She is scheduled to reprise her "Scream" role as reporter Gale Weathers in "Scream IV" in 2011.
She has also appeared in the films "Commandments" in 1997, "The Runner" in 1999 and "3000 Miles to Graceland" with Kevin Costner and Kurt Russell as criminal Elvis Impersonators in 2001.  Also in 2001 she was in "The Shrink is In" and "Get Well Soon."  The independent film "November" came in 2004.  She voiced Daisy the Cow in the animated film "Barnyard: The Original Party Animals" in 2006 as well as performing in "Zoom" and "The Tripper" which she also produced.  She starred with Adam Sandler in Bedtime Stories" in 2008.
Since leaving "Friends" she appeared briefly as Lucille "Lucy" Spiller in the short lived series "Dirt" produced by her production company with David Arquette.  "Dirt" ran from 2007 to 2008.  In 2009 she appeared in a couple of episodes of "Scrubs."
Also in 2009 she created the role of Jules Cobb in the series "Cougar Town" also produced by her production company with David Arquette.  "Cougar Town" has had guest spots filled by former "Friends" co-stars Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow.  This series is currently on air as of the end of 2010.
Courteney Cox became Courteney Cox-Arquette on June 12th 1999.  Five years and a day later she gave birth to their daughter Coco Riley Arquette.  THe girl's godmother is Jennifer Aniston.  In October of 2010 Courteney and David Arquette separated.
Interesting trivia about Courteney:  She is step-cousin to the Copeland brothers, Stewart who was drummer for the new wave band, The Police, Miles who founded IRS Records and Ian, founder of talent agency Frontier Booking International (FBI).
She was the first person to say the word "period" on television with regard to menstruation in an ad for Tampax in 1985.
