1910 – He was born Harry Summerfield Hoff on the 4th day of April this year in Crewe, and educated at Christ’s College, Cambridge.


1933 – He graduated this year, he taught in Leicester, the setting for the ‘first’ novel Scenes from Provincial Life in 1950, which would be the first of five featuring the character Joe Lunn.


1934 – He wrote his first novel “Trina” in this year.


1950 – He wrote the play “Prince Genji”.


1958 – In the late 1950’s, he became more popular with his novel “Young People”.


1961 – He started the 60’s with “Scenes from Married Life”. He continued to write and his last masterpiece is Scenes from Death and Life, which he wrote in 1999.


2002 – He died on the 5th day of November this year.
