Cooke, Sarah Palfrey(Sarah Hammond Palfrey Fabyan Cooke Danzig)
1912 - Born on September 18th in Sharon, Massachusetts.
1928-1930 - Sarah won the national junior championship three times in a row and was the only one of the girls to go on to success as an adult.
- She also won the United States doubles title with Betty Nuthall of England.
1938-1940 - She and Alice Marble won the Wimbledon women's doubles championship and were the United States doubles champions.
1945 - She almost became the only woman to win a championship in men's doubles. Because of the shortage of male players during World War II, she and her husband, Elwood Cooke, were allowed to play in the men's doubles event of the Tri-State Championships in Cincinnati.
1953 - Named as the greatest female athlete in the history of Massachusetts.
- Palfrey wrote two instructional books, Tennis for Anyone and Winning Tennis and How to Play It. She also wrote many magazine articles about the sport.
1996 - Died on February 27th in New York.
