1955 - Born on the 29th of November in St. Louis Park, Minn., U.S.

         - After graduating from NYU, Joel worked as a production assistant on a variety of industrial films and music videos.

1981 - He developed a talent for film editing and met Sam Raimi, who was looking for an assistant editor on his first feature film, The Evil Dead.

1984 - His own first film, Blood Simple.

1987 - Was followed by such notable works as Raising Arizona.

1990 - Miller's Crossing.

1991 - Barton Fink.

1996 - Fargo, Academy Award for direction and screenwriting.

1998 - The Big Lebowski.

2000 - O Brother, Where Art Thou?.
