1912 – Born in Roman, Romania on the 28th of June.

1945-1952 – He studied in Berlin and he was principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

1970 – He was awarded Denmark’s prestigious Sonning Award.

1979 – He was music director of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.

1984 – He regularly taught at Mainz University in Germany and taught at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

1996 – Died near Paris on the 14th of August.
