1795 – Joseph Bienaime Caventou was born in St. Omer, Northern France. French pharmacist and one of the earliest and most successful investigators of alkaloids.

         – He became professor at the Ecole de Pharmacie, Paris.

1818-1820 – In collaboration with Pelletier, he discovered strychnine, brucine and, simultaneously with Meissner, veratrine, quinine and, after Gomes, cinchonine.

         – He introduced the term chlorophyll.

1823 – They discovered nitrogen.

1877 – Joseph Bienaime Caventou died.
