1822 - He graduated Brown University, and entered the Baptist ministry.

1828 - He was professor of mathematics and natural philosophy in Brown University.

1850 - He was professor of mathematics and astronomy.

1857 - He was one of the founders of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and served as its President.

1986-1872 - Professor Caswell was president of Brown University.

1877 - Alexis Caswell died.
