1478 – He was born on the 6th of December in Casatico, near Mantua (Italy).

         – Castiglione was educated at the humanist school of Giorgio Merula and Demetrius Chalcondyles, and at the court of Ludovico Sforza in Milan.

1499 –  He returned to Mantua to enter the service of the marquis.

1513 – Francesco Gonzaga Castiglione was sent to Rome as ambassador of the new duke of Urbino, Francesco Maria della Rovere, and later entered papal service.

1525 – Castiglione was posted to Spain as papal nuncio (ambassador) and apparently impressed Emperor Charles V as a perfect gentleman.

1529 – He died on the 2nd of February in Toledo (Spain).Italian author, courtier, and politician
