         - He completed his undergraduate work at Stanford University and received his Ph.D. from the Sarbonne in Paris, France.

2000-2003 - He was elected as the Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

         - He was the first Latin American appointed to board of directors of Human Rights Watch.

         - He is a Global Distinguished Professor of Politics and Latin American Studies at New York University.
