1909 – He was born on the 15th day of July this year in The Hague.


1928 – He studied physics at Leiden beginning this year and received his Ph.D.


1938 – He became a physics professor at Leiden University.


1942 – He remained an active scientist.


1945 – He wrote a well-known paper on Lars Onsager’s principle of microscopic reversibility.


1956 – He became one of the members of the board of directors of the company this year.


1972 – He retired from Philips this year.


1979 – He was one of the key speakers at CERN’s 25th anniversary celebrations.


2000 – He died on the 4th day of May this year in Heeze, the Netherlands.
