1932 - US singer and songwriter Johnny Ray Cash was born.  Cash was known for his deep and distinctive voice, the boom-chick-a-boom or "freight train".


1954 - Wrote and recorded "Folsom Prison Blues" 


1956 - "I Walk the Line"


1960 - Began drinking heavily and became addicted to amphetamines and barbiturates.


1969-1971 - Starred in his own television show on the ABC network.


1980 - Became the Country Music Hall of Fame's youngest living inductee at age 48.
