1981-1991 – He held the Lucius N. Littauer Professorship of Public Policy and Administration at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he served as Academic Dean and Dean.
1994 – He served as dean of the John F. Kennedy School of Government and provost of the university.
1997 – Albert Carnesale assumed the University of California, Los Angeles, top position on July 1st.He served as Chancellor of UCLA.
