1909 – Born on August 18th in Paris, France. A  motion-picture director noted for the poetic realism of his pessimistic dramas.

1928 – Carné joined the director Jacques Feyder as an assistant.

1930 – He assisted René Clair on the popular comedy Sous les toits de Paris (“Under the Roofs of Paris”).

1936 – At the age of 25 he directed his first movie Jenny.

1938 – He became the great director of the pre-war era of the French cinema with the poetic realism style.

1945 – He worked in the zone of the government of Vichy making Enfants du paradis, Les, a clear anti-nazi parabola and all time classic of French cinema.

1996 – Died on October 31st in Clamart, Hauts-de-Seine, Île-de-France, France.
