1928 - Born on May 24th in Methuen, Massachusetts. American animal welfare activist and author.

1954 - Married to Jill Landon Barclay on September 5th.

1962 - Mr. Caras was the author of more than 70 books about animals and their habitats. His first, "Antarctica: Land of Frozen Time," was published.

1975 - He joined ABC-TV and was for 17 years a special correspondent exclusively assigned to stories about animals, wildlife and the environment.

1980 - He was a member of the School's Board of Overseers.

1984 - He was the recipient of an honorary degree, an Ll.D., from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the Centennial Convocation on October 15th.

1990 - He received the Centennial Medal.

1991 - President of the American Society for the Preventions of Cruelty to Animals.

1997 - He was an adjunct professor of animal ecology.

2001 - Died of heart attack on February 18th in Towson, Maryland.
