1890 - Born in Malé SvatoHovice, Bohemia, Austria-Hungary on the 9th of January.

1921 - He introduced and made popular the frequently used international word robot, which first appeared in his play R.U.R.

1930 - Capek's work focused on the threat of brutal Nazi and fascist dictatorships.

1933 - In an article in the Czech journal Lidové noviny, he also explained that he had originally wanted to call the creatures laboYi.

1936 - A Nobel Prize nominee.

1938 - His most productive years coincided with the existence of the first republic of Czechoslovakia.

1938 - Died of double pneumonia on the 25th of December, shortly after part of Bohemia was annexed by Nazi Germany following the so-called Munich Agreement.
