1992-2001- Cantor was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, when he was elected to the House.

2002 – Cantor is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. Cantor was named Chief Deputy Majority Whip, after one term in the House.

2005 – On the 8th of June, he criticized Howard Dean for referring to the Republican Party as a "white, Christian party".

2006 – In the midterm elections, Cantor defeated Jim Nachman, the Democratic nominee and Independent candidate Dr. Brad Blanton. Cantor received 64% of the votes.
