1927 - Born on the 2nd of April in LaGrange west of Atlanta.

         - He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.

1964 - He ran as "Goldwater Republican" for a seat in the House of Representatives.

1973 - He served as Secretary of the Army.

1976 - He became Gerald Ford's first campaign manage.

1980 - Callaway was an unsuccessful candidate for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate, losing to challenger Mary Buchanan. The seat was retained by the incumbent, Democrat Gary Hart.

         - He served as the chairman of the Colorado Republican party and as head of GOPAC.
