Callaway, Ely Reeves (Elly)
1919 - He was born on the 3rd of June in La Grange, Ga.
1940 - Ely grew up in Georgia and graduated from Emory University.
1982 - He bought half of Hickory Sticks, the company was renamed to Callaway Hickory Stick USA.
1983 - He became president and moved the company to Carlsbad, California where he reportedly sold clubs out of his Cadillac.
1984 - Callaway bought the rest of the company for $400,000.
1986 - Callaway hired billiard cue designer Richard C. Helmstetter, as a consultant. Helmstetter then becomes chief club designer that same year and installs computer-controlled milling machines for improved surfacing on putters.
2001 - He died on the 5th of July in Rancho Santa Fe, California.
