1904 - Mary Steichen Calderone was born on July 1st in New York, New York. American physician, birth control activist, and sexual education advocate.
- Calderone attended the Brearley School in New York City for her secondary education.
1925 - Graduated at Vassar College, with an A.B. in Chemistry.
1939 - Obtained her M.D. degree from the University of Rochester medical school.
1942 - Received her Master of Public Health from Columbia University.
1953 - She was the Medical Director for Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
- Calderone combined her love of high drama and her belief in a scientific approach to sexuality by engaging in a public, full-throttle campaign for national sex education as the medical director of Planned Parenthood.
1954 - Served as President and Co-founder of the Sex Information and Education Council of the United States (SEICUS).
1958 - Organized a national conference, which instigated the movement to legalize abortion.
1964-1975 - She served as Executive director of SIECUS.
1980 - Calderone also promoted responsible sexual behavior in her well-thumbed primers: The Manual of Contraceptive Practices and The Family Book about Sexuality.
1998 - Calderone died on October 24th in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania at the age of 94.
