Calderon Serra, Sila Maria(Calderon, Sila)
1942 - Born on the 23rd of September in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Puerto Rican politician and governor of Puerto Rico, the first woman to hold the post.
1960 - Attended college at Manhattanville College in New York.
1964 - Graduated with a degree in Political Science in Manhattanville College in New York.
1972 - She graduated with a masters in Public Administration from the University of Puerto Rico.
1973 - Her political career began when she was named executive assistant to the Labor Secretary and Special Assistant to then Governor, Rafael Hernandez Colón.
1985 - Became the First woman Chief of Staff in Puerto Rico.
- Served as Secretary of State a position, which includes the responsibilities of a Lieutenant Governor.
1987 - Inducted into the Order of Isabel the Catholic ("Orden Isabel la Católica") by the Spanish Government.
1988 - The American Association of Public Works awarded her as "Leader of the Year" in the field of Public Works.
1989 - Resigned as a Secretary of State in Puerto Rico and she devoted her efforts to non-profit andcommunity work.
1992 - She took a hiatus from politics and served on the board of directors of several corporations such as Banco Popular and non-profit organizations such as The Sister Isolina Ferré Foundation.
1996 - Elected as Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
2000 - She set her sights for the governor's seat. She led the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) during a heated and close campaign for Governor against Carlos Pesquera (PNP) and Ruben Berrios (PIP).
2001 - She was elected governor of Puerto Rico, the first woman to hold the post.
- Calderón and her long-time husband Adolfo Krans were divorced.
2003 - She married Ramón Cantero Frau, a former member of her cabinet, on September 10th.
