1913 - John Cairncross was born on the 25th of July in Scotland.

1936 - Cairncross joined the Foreign Office.

1937 - He joined the Communist party.

1942 - He worked on ciphers at Bletchley Park and MI6.

         - He recruited by Anthony Blunt to pass British secrets to Soviet Union, as Fifth Man of Kim Philby spy ring.

1951 - He discovered by British government but avoided prosecution by revealing information about Soviet operations

         - Cairncross worked for the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization in Rome.

1995 - He died aged 82 on the 8th of October.
