1853 - He was born in Runcorn, Cheshire, England on the 14th of May, and christened Thomas Henry Hall Caine.
1868 - At the age of 15, he discovered the poetry of Coleridge.
1870 - His grandfather died and later that year Caine had a type of nervous breakdown.
1871 - In December, James Teare died and Caine carved a headstone for his grave.
1872 - He returned in Liverpool, and wrote his first extended work of fiction.
1878 - Caine traveled to London to see Irving's first night at the Lyceum Theatre.
1882 - In January, his anthology Sonnets of Three Centuries was published.
1883 - He published "Cobwebs of Criticism".
1884 - The Manxman, published, was one of his greatest successes.
1885 - His first novel Shadow of a Crime was published by Chatto & Windus in February.
1886 - He published "A Son of Hagar" in three volumes.
1897 - His most successful novel, The Christian was published.
1901 - He was elected a Member of the House of Keys as a Liberal.
1905-1908 - He edited books to raise money for Queen Alexandra's charities.
1914 - He decided to produce another charity book, in support of the exiled King Albert of Belgium.
1917 - He declined the offer of baronetcy; instead he accepted a knighthood as a KBE.
1929 - Caine was given the Freedom of Douglas.
1931 - Hall Caine slipped into a coma and died on the 31st of August aged 78 at Greeba Castle.
